Recycle: Cities are finding that offering recycling centers is beneficial to the community. Individuals have the opportunity to contribute to a change in lifestyle that benefits themselves and others whether spiritually or economically. Most recycle centers run by the city generate a "put back into the community" revenue fund.
Repurpose: Finding ways to use already manufactured products in a new way is beneficial to lowering the carbon foot print. Finding creative ways to accomplish this task is also beneficial to individual creative thinking. An example of repurpose is a four legged table. Cut the table in half and mount it to the wall so, now you have a decorative entry table, which takes up less space.
Upcycle: This is a creative project, which has been done for many years but has now become more trendy. Take at least two found objects and assemble into a new functional item. Traditionally the spend thrift housewife would save tin cans, cut them into bell shapes fasten them together with cloth or yarn leftover from a home project and hang them to chime in the wind.
The cottage industry of at home moms on a very tight budget spent hours recycling clothing, cutting the cloth into strips and making a new braided rug. Sometimes these projects were small needful things and sometimes huge community groups called "The Bee" worked together on a project. The most well known one being the "Quilting Bee."
